Implants

An implant is a treatment option to replace one or several missing teeth. When determining if an implant is a valid option, several things are considered such as the amount of bone density present and/or the patient’s bite. Before an implant is placed, a bone graft may be placed to increase the bone density which in turn will increase the rate of success for the implant. The implant itself is made up of bio compatible material that will integrate with the bone over a course of 3-6 months.

Once sufficient local anesthesia is administered, space for the implant is made within the bone by using different drills. X-rays will be used to ensure proper orientation of the potential implant site, prior to placement. Once it is determined that the orientation is acceptable, the implant is placed. Upon placement, a healing cap may be placed to allow the gums and the bone to heal over the course of 3-6 months. After this time, the bone will integrate successfully with the implant. A crown will be fabricated for the implant.
